Harold E. “Strawberry” Moyer, 81, of East Peoria, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

Harold was born in Harrisburg on July 18, 1928, a son of Tilford and Hattie (Gwantley) Moyer. He married Imogene M. Meischner on May 13, 1954. She survives.

He is also survived by his son, James “Jim” Moyer of East Peoria; sister, Barbara (Huland) Mann of Harrison, MI; and brothers, Darrel of Shreveport, LA and Jerry and Charles (Bonnie) of Zion. His parents, one brother, Phillip, and one sister, Donna Moore, preceded him in death.

He was a member of Hilton Masonic Lodge No. 1143, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Illinois in East Peoria. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Peoria and Mohammed Temple Shrine.

Harold enjoyed soft peppermint candy, watching boxing, listening to classic Country and Gospel music, working in his vegetable garden and his strawberry patch and collecting EVERYTHING.

His greatest enjoyment in life came from his son and his son’s work. He will be remembered for his willingness to help others and for giving advice, when needed.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009, at Clary Funeral Home, 428 West McClure Avenue, in Peoria, with Pastor Scot Shelburne officiating.
